Western Digital Bumps Data Center Drive Capacity To 10TB
Irvine-based Western Digital said this morning that it has bumped the capacity of its line of "WD Gold" data center hard drives by 25 percent, to 10 terabytes, as it continues to push the storage capacity of its hard drive line. WD said the 25 percent increase over its former, 8TB capacity for the drives also includes a reduction in power usage, by 8 percent, and 21 percent better sequential performance improvement. The disk drive line is aimed at use in enterprise servers and storage, and rack-mount datacenter servers and storage enclosures. WD did not announce the pricing on the new higher capacity drives.
