USC's Entertainment Technology Center Adds 3-D Lab
The Entertainment Technology Center @ USC, the entertainment/technology-focused industry collaboration that is part of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, said Monday that the firm has launched a new lab focused on 3-D technologies. According to the center, the new lab will be used to "explore stereoscopic 3-D technologies, including stereoscopic 3-D implementations in a neutral, consumer-centric setting." The lab and the assocaited ETC Stereoscopic 3-D Working Group will identify areas where standards can be used to accelerate adoption of stereoscopic 3-D technology in entertainment, particularly in the home. The center said that Disney, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount, Warner Bros., Sharp, LG, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Dolby, Deluxe, Thomson, TCS, Volkswagen Group of America are all involved in the new lab effort.
