UberMedia, 50 Cent Launch UberSocial Theme
Pasadena-based UberMedia, the Twitter client applications firm backed by Idealab, said this week that it has rolled out a new, branded "theme" for the firm's UberSocial for BlackBerry application, crafted by music artist 50 Cent. According to hip hop record label G-Unit Records and UberMedia, the Uber50 theme includes both a free version and deluxe version, which costs $1.99, which includes background art and sounds selected by 50 Cent. Financial arrangements between the record label and UberMedia were not announced. The new deal is the latest in a set of cross-branded efforts by UberMedia, which earlier this month launched custom content channels on UberSocial and Twidroyd from USA TODAY, Mashable, Bleacher Report, and Duke Basketball. The news of the 50 Cent deal was somewhat overshadowed this week by rumors that UberMedia is planning its own competitor to Twitter, after multiple conflicts with Twitter over its client plans.
