Storage Companies Build Petabyte Storage Array For MIT
Irvine-based Zetera, Seagate, Bell Microproducts, and Marvell are expected to announce today that they are building what they say is the largest and highest performing data storage array in the world at the Media Lab at MIT. The companies are announcing today a 1.4 petabyte storage array based on Zetera's hardware, for use in collecting video and audio data for a research project designed to better understand early childhood cognitive development. Zetera develops technology for networking storage over Ethernet. Other recent storage arrays in the petabyte range include a enterprise class storage array from Fujitsu announced in April, at 1.36 petabytes capacity; and EMC, which first announced an array that supports a petabyte of storage in January.
