SpaceX Wins Two Air Force Missions
Hawthorne-based SpaceX has scored a new win today, this time, with the United States Air Force. According to SpaceX, it has been awarded two, Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV)-class missions by the USAF, which will launch on the SpaceX Falcon in 2014 and 2015. The first mission is for the Falcon 9, and the second on the Falcon Heavy, the SpaceX rocket which is expected to be the most powerful in the world since the Saturn V. The Air Force missions are worth up to $900M, according to information released this week by the Pentagon. The missions also open up a new market for SpaceX: military launch missions.
