Novatel Wireless Powers Virgin Mobile Service
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless is behind this week's launch of Virgin Mobile USA's nationwide 3G wireless Internet service, providing the hardware behind the new service. Virgin Mobile said that it would provide prepaid, broadband connectivity with its new service, which will offer users the ability to buy broadband access via 3G wireless, through re-loadable, prepaid cards. The cards, which are based on number of megabytes of download and time, are available in various denominations, including $10, $20, $40, and $60 increments. The service uses the MC750 Broadband2Go device to connect PCs into Sprint's national network; that hardware based on technology from Novatel Wireless. The hardware will be sold through Best Buy.
