Esri Partners With Group To Help Address Extinction Crisis
Redland-based geographical information systems (GIS) software developer Esri said this morning that it has partnered with the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, to help that nonprofit with its efforts to conserve half the earth's lands and seas to reverse the species extinction crisis currently threatening the planet. According to Esri, it will provide the mapping and analytics capabilities of ArcGIS for the group, including access to the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World, expertise in the geospatial and geoscience area, plus financial support. Esri's founder and President, Jack Dangermond, said he believes that the E.O. Wilson Diversity Foundation's efforts are "critically important" to the earth's future. The United Nations recently issued a report saying over 1 million species are threatened by an accelerating rate of species loss, which ultimately will impact economies, livelihoods, food security, health and quality of life worldwide.
