Boeing Launches Internet Access on Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines has launched an in-flight broadband service for its Singapore/Frankfurt/New York route, tapping services from Connexion by Boeing. Connexion, based in Seattle and Irvine, provides equipment and service to allow for broadband connections on commercial airliner service. The new service will provide customers with real-time, high-speed Internet connectivity using wireless laptop computers in-flight. The service also provides live global TV channels via laptop. According to Singapore Airlines, the pricing will be based either on fixed rate, unlimited usage or metered by the minute. Pricing for the airlines fixed rate broadband will start at $14.95 for 3 hours of service. Singapore Airlines said that it expects to introduce the service on its other long-haul flights to and from North America in 2006.
