AltaSens Rolls HD CMOS Image Sensor
Thousand Oaks-based AltaSens, a provider of HD CMOS imaging sensors used for HD cameras, announced a new sensor which supports the 1080p60 high resolution HD format Thursday. The firm said it has begun shipping engineering samples of a new 2.5-megapixel system-on-a-chip, which is targeted at manufacturers of high definition cameras. AltaSens sensors are used for prosumer, broadcast, videoconferencing, security, and other industries. Separately, the firm also said today that it has ramped up production of the firm's five-megapixel HD sensor as part of a win with Hitachi, which is incorporating its sensors into a Blu-ray Disc enabled HD camcorder.
