XPRIZE Names Finalists In $10M ANA AVATAR XPRIZE

Los Angeles-based XPRIZE says it has named 20 finalists in its $10M ANA AVATAR XPRIZE, a competition to develop robotic telepresence robots, with finals to be held in Long Beach in November. According to XPRIZE, it has invited 20 teams from 11 countries to ompete for its $8M, grand prize purse at a public event at the Long Beach COnvention Center laster this year. The prize is supported by All Nippon Airways (ANA), and challenges teams to develop physical robotic avatar systems that can execute tasks and replicate a human's senses, actions and presence to a remote location in real-time. The grand prize winner receives $5M, and second and third place receiving $2M and $1M.
