Western Digital Sells Off ActiveScale
Western Digital, the developer of memory and storage products which has significant operations in Orange County, has sold off its ActiveScale object storage business to Quantum Corporation, the two announced this morning. Financial details of the sale were not announced. According to the companies, the deal was between Quantum Corporation and Western Digital Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Western Digital Corp. ActiveScale develops "object-based-storage", storage which stores unstructured data like video and images in an easy-to-retrieve way, unlike traditional file-based storage. The companies said those systems are typically used in entertainment, surveillance and security, marketing and training, and other industries.
