Warner Bros. To Use BitTorrent
Burbank-based Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has inked a deal to use the peer to peer file swapping network, BitTorrent, to sell its motion picture and television content. The move is the first of a major studio to partner with the BitTorrent publishing platform, and follows an agreement by BitTorrent with the Motion Picture Assocation of America (MPAA) to prevent film piracy on its network. BitTorrent said that it will offer legal content for video-on-demand and for sell through on the same day as the DVD release. The companies said they intend to launch the service this summer, featuring more than 200 of Warner's new releases.
