VIZIO Pays $2.2M to Settle FTC Charges
Irvine-based Vizio, the manufacturer of televisions and other consumer electronics, has been ordered to pay $2.2 million to the FTC and the State of New Jersey, to settle charges that it has been collecting the viewing history of its customers without their consent. The charges had been filed by the Federal Trade Commission and the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General in 2015. The FTC said the order also requires VIZIO to "prominently disclose and obtain affirmative express consent" for its data collection.
