Virgin Digital Launches Online Music Service

Los Angeles-based Virgin Digital, a new digital entertainment firm which is part of the Virgin Group, said today that it is offering an comprehensive online music collection for MP3 players, mobile phones, and other music-enabled mobile gadgets. The company said that it has an extensive catalog of two million tracks from over 15,000 record labels. The Virgin Digital service provides both subscription, $7.99 a month unlimited download of music, and a ala carte 99 cent per track download service. The company is entering into an increasingly crowded space, with Apple's iTunes, Los Angeles-based Napster, and other music download services all clamoring for attention. Virgin's services use the Microsoft WMA format and are compatible with WMA devices.
