ViaSat Renews Rural Broadband Deal
Carlsbad-based ViaSat reports this morning that it has renewed a deal with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), to provide its satellite broadband services. The five year, wholesale distribution deal will be carried through its new ViaSat-1 satellite. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. ViaSat's satellite communications service is expected to offer faster Internet service than currently available via satellite, at prices starting at $50. ViaSat is expecting its satellite to enter service this month. The NRTC provides services to over 1,500 rural utilities and their affiliates.
