Verizon Digital Media Acquires Volicon
Los Angeles-based content delivery network provider Verizon Digital Media Services--which is better known to locals as the former operations of EdgeCast--said it has agreed to acquire Volicon, a provider of video capture, archival, compliance monitoring and clip creation workflow for broadcasters. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Verizon Digital Media Services, which is now part of AOL, said it will use the acquisition to help it bolster its servies in the area of broadcast and online video. Volicon was based in Massachusetts, and had been founded in 2005. Verizon Digital Media Services--which has a big building in Playa Del Rey--is led by Bob Toohey.
