Userplane Launches Media Player
Santa Monica-based Userplane, the online software and widget firm owned by AOL, said Tuesday that it has formally launched a new video publishing application, Userplane Mediaplayer. The new application allows web publishers to support video upload and playback on their sites. According to Userplane, the new application is available free to publishers, and is supported by the firm's ad revenue sharing program. The video player supports custom-skins and branding, an upload function, and will included sharing and distribution tools. Userplane announced its intent to release the media player application in March, after VideoEgg withdrew from the video hosting market. The application is the latest in a string of Internet software applications developed by Userplane; the firm's software includes chat, instant messaging, and other applications all targeted at community web sites.
