Topspin Media Uncloaks Digital Media Firm
Santa Monica-based Topspin Media, a stealth media firm which has been venture funded by Redpoint Ventures and is headed by Ian Rogers, former head of Yahoo! Music, has unveiled details of the firm. Rogers, in a blog post to the firm's web site Friday, provided further information about the company, saying that the firm is building software tools to help music artists market efficiently. According to Rogers, the firm employs a team of software developers in both Santa Monica and San Francisco, and the firm is planning to show its projects and releases this summer and in the fall. Topspin also said that it is currently working with around 10 music artists to promote their work; those artists include Jubilee, Josh Rouse, and The Dandy Warhols. Topspin's co-founders are Peter Gotcher (formerly of Digidesign), and Shamal Ranasinghe (RealNetworks, Musicmatch, and Yahoo! Music). No details of the firm's funding have been released, aside from a brief mention of the firm in Redpoint's portfolio, which was added in early June.
