textPlus: Turn Your Amazon Kindle Fire Into A Phone, Today
Tired of waiting for Amazon.com to actually release a phone version of the Amazon Kindle Fire? Marina Del Rey-based mobile app developer textPlus said Tuesday that its software can turn existing, Kindle Fire into a phone, using textPlus over WiFi today. textPlus--which is venture backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Matrix Partners, Upfront Ventures and The Raine Group--offers up a mobile app which lets users send unlimited text messages for free, and also provides low cost, phone calling globally to users. The company has been offering up its mobile apps across iOS, Android, Windows, Nokia, and other connected devices for awhile. The announcement comes as there have been widespread rumors and leaks of an upcoming, Amazon Kindle Fire smartphone.
