Tear Film Innovations Raises $9M
San Diego-based Tear Film Innovations, a developer of a medical device for treating "dry eye", has raised $9M in a Series A funding, the company said this morning. The funding round was led by Visionary Ventures Fund and Tigris Ventures. TearFilm is developing a investigational device, the iLux system, which is used by eye care professionals to treat blocked meiboian glands, using targeted heating and compression of eyelids. Tear Film Innovations is led by CEO and President Rob Thornhill. Visionary Ventures Fund is a new, Orange County-based venture capital investment firm, focused on opthalmology investments, which works directly with the OCTANe Launch Pad accelerator; Tigris Ventures is a seed stage funding and medical device incubator located in Del Mar.
