Swappa Targets OC With Local Marketplace
Swappa, the operator of a local marketplace for buying and selling used consumer electronics, said this week that it has launched itself into Orange County, in a part of a national expansion. Swappa said that Orange County is one of five initial launch markets it is expanding into to improve the experience of buying and selling used electronic devices. The company--which is based in Kansas--says it manually verifies devices and listings on its marketplace, to ensure products are not lost, stolen, broken or financed. The company says that sellers must submit the serial devices of cellular devices on its site, and it manually checks and approves all of those devices to make sure they are not "blacklisted" devices--i.e. phones which have been reported stolen. The company says it has been running its marketplaces since 2010.
