Sun Microsystems Buys Procom
Procom Technology has sold its network attached storage (NAS) software intellectual property to Sun Microsystems Monday. Procom is an Irvine-based developer of enterprise NAS storage arrays, providing high availability features, and has an existing OEM agreement with Sun. The deal was worth approximately $50M in cash. Sun Microsystems said that Procom's operating system, patent applications, and some engineers will be transfered to the firm. Procom's technology is marketed to small and medium-sized businesses. Procom was advised by Santa Monica-based Montgomery & Co.
