SpiritClips Launches Film Site
Los Angeles-based SpiritClips said today that it has launched a new web site, focused on short films that "impart compassion, hope, courage and strength." The site, which was created by producer Rob Fried (producer of "Rudy" and "So I Married an Axe Murderer") allows users to watch and share films with other users. The site is ad-free, and allows users to either download films for $0.99 each, or to subscribe to unlimited viewing for a year for $24.99. According to SpiritClips, the site is launching with nine three-to-five minute films, and will add one new original film per month to the site. Fried was previously CEO of WhatsHotNow.com, an online marketplace for licensed merchandise which was backed by more than $24M in funding from a lineup of Hollywood actors, Thomas H. Lee Putnam Internet Partners, Citibank Ventures, and GE Capital Equity. That firm shut down in 2001 during the dot com bust.
