SpaceX Wins New NASA Contract For ISS Deliveries

NASA said Thursday afternoon that it has awarded Hawthorne-based SpaceX one of three awards to deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS), as part of a continuation of its efforts to move to commercial rocket launch providers. NASA said the Commercial Resupply Services (CRS-2) contracts cover deliveries to the ISS from 2019 through 2024. In addition to the award to SpaceX, NASA also awarded simliar contracts to Orbital ATK and Sierra Nevada Corporation. NASA said the contracts guarantee a minimum of six, cargo resupply missions from each provider, plus funding for ISS integration, flight support, special tasks and studies, and NASA requirement changes. NASA said the contracts are potentially worth $14 billion, depending on what missions are ordered.
