SpaceX Targets NASA Mission for This Afternoon From Canaveral
Hawthorne-based SpaceX is continuing its hectic pace of rocket launches, saying that it it targeting a launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida this afternoon, at 6:32 p.m. EDT, of a payload for NASA. SpaceX is launching NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), a satellite which is designed to look for "exoplanets" -- potential planets orbiting bright host stars relatively close to Earth. That satellite uses the dip in intensity of stars when a planet crosses across the face of those stars, to detect planets.
