Southwest Shutdown Snarls Tech Commuters
Many commuters and executives who fly between Southern California and Silicon Valley were stymied by a massive shutdown of flights by Southwest Airlines Thursday afternoon, after high winds and heavy rain prompted the airline to cancel travel to and from Burbank, Ontario, Orange County, and San Diego airports. Southwest, in a notice posted to customers on its web site, said it would cancel flights to and from BUR and ONT between 1pm and 6pm, the majority of flights after 1pm at SNA, and the majority of flights the whole day to and from SAN. Southwest's flights between those airports and Bay Area airports are frequented by many executives traveling to and from the Silicon Valley area.
