Soraa Ships Outdoor LED Product
Soraa, the UC Santa Barbara spinout whic is backed by Khosla Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, and NGEN Partners, said today that it has launched its first, outdoor LED lamp product, which it says patches the performance of a 40W halogon MR16 lamp. The firm--which is commercializing solid state lighting technology based on gallium nitride fabrication technology--said the lamp is its first for use in outdoor and enclosed fixture. Soraa said its LED lamps save 75 percent of the energy normally required for similar halogen lamps, and provide various color temperatures, halogen-equivalent brightness, and overcomes common ventilation and thermal design barriers. The firm--started in Santa Barbara by a number of UCSB professors--now has a factory in Fremont building its lighting devices.
