SONOS Swizzles Wireless Technology
Santa Barbara-based whole home music system developer Sonos said late last week that it has made a big change to the way its products work, removing the need to connect one of its components to a user's wireless router. The requirement to connect a Sonos BRIDGE or other product to your Wi-Fi router has been a requirement since the introduction of the company's products, even though Sonos has its own, proprietary wireless mesh technology called SonosNet. Sonos said the removal of the wireless router requirement comes due to the improvement in wireless technology over the last ten years. Previously, Sonos had used that WiFi network to ensure full coverage of homes; the company said that now, most homes should not require Sonos BRIDGE or other product on a WiFi network, except some very large homes.
