SolarReserve Ramps Up Project In South Australia

Los Angeles-based solar power plant developer SolarReserve says it has just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Heliostat SA, a South Australian company focused on the manufacture and assembly of heliostats and heliostat components, as part of its efforts on a huge solar thermal energy project in Port August, South Africa. Accoridng to SolarReserve, Heliostat SA will manufacture over 12,000 mirror assemblies in South Australia for its Aurora Solar Energy Project. Financial details of the MOU with Heliostat SA were not announced. Heliostats are the very large, movable mirrors which help direct the sun's energy to a large tower, where that energy is used to create molten salt. That molten salt is used to create steam to power turbines to create energy. The Aurora Solar Energy Project is SolarReserve's first in Australia, and is expected to help pave the way for more of SolarReserve's plants in that country, according to SolarReserve.
