Snap to Pay $35M In Biometrics Lawsuit

Venice, California-based Snap has been ordered to pay $35M in a settlement over how the company used biometric data, according to the Chicago Tribune, after a class action lawsuit. According to the report, Snapchat's filters and lenses violated the very strict Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by collecting and storing biometric data without users' consent. The settlement apparently will provide between $58 and $117 to Snapchat users in Illinois who have used Snapchat filters anytime since November 17th of 2015.
