Slacker Adds iPhone Caching
San Diego-based music streaming startup Slacker, said today that it has rolled out a new version of its iPhone app, adding caching of music streamed from the service. According to the firm, the new version of its Slacker Radio app allows users to cache radio stations, allowing individual songs from stations to be played off-line. The firm said the upgraded app will allow caching of stations for up to 14 days. The new caching of music requires the firm's Slacker Radio Plus service, which costs $3.99 per month. Slacker said the app works with the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPad, and iPod Touch. The launch of the caching option--which can be used to preload music stations while connected via Wi-Fi--comes immediately after AT&T's announcement that it will be killing its unlimited data plan, due to very high usage users of such things as the iPhone. Slacker's new caching option allows users to preload their favorite stations without incurring data charges.
