SGN Buys Mob Science
Los Angeles-based social games developer SGN, which is led by former MySpace co-founder Chris DeWolfe, said today that it has acquired Mob Science, the social games developer behind Zynga's Legends: Rise of a Hero. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. According to SGN, the acquisition of San Diego-based Mob Science will add 11 new talented recruits to the company, as well as a catalogue of nearly a dozen social and mobile game titles. SGN said Mob Science will remain in their offices in Carlsbad.
SGN has been picking up talent from Zynga all this year, as the onetime social gaming company has stumbled; not only has SGN been picking off local talent, the company also has been eyeing game studios backed by Zynga. In this case, Zynga was an investor in Mob Science, and published Mob Science's lead title, Legends: Rise of a Hero. Mob Science was headed by Michael Witz. In addition to Zynga, the company was venture backed by David Young, the CEO of Joyent, Mark Surfas of GameSpy Industries, as well as other angels.
