Sensible Weather Gets New Investment

Los Angeles-based Sensible Weather, a startup which is developing climate technology and insurance products, said it has received a new investment from the PGA and Elysian Park Ventures, the private equity investment arm of the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Sensible Weather, the strategic investment also includes a deal to provide its weather risk products to PGA facilities across the country. Size of the investment was not announced. Sensible Weather said the investment from the PGA came via a new investment partnership created by the PGA of America and Elysian Park Ventures, called EP Golf Ventures. Sensible Weather's new product for golf courses allows golfers the option to protect against the risk of weather when booking tee times and lodging packages online; the company said it will automatically reimburse tee time and other travel-related costs in the case of rain, extreme temperatures or other undesirable weather during a round. Sensible Weather uses satellite imagery and weather models for its products; the company's other investors include Trailblazer Venture Studio, Global Sports Venture Studio, Robin, Fitt Insider.
