Ring Starts Selling Home Security System, Ring Alarm
Los Angeles-based Ring, the "smart doorbell" and security camera maker, is expanding into the home security system market with a new system called the Ring Alarm--and has just started taking pre-orders for its systems. The new product includes door and window sensors, smoke and CO2 detectors, water leak detection, and other capabilities--all in addition to connecting to Ring's doorbells and cameras. Ring said users can pre-order the new Ring Alarm system, with the basic Ring Alarm package (with base station, keypad, contact sensor, motion sensor, and a range extender) costing $199.00. The system is supposed to ship on July 4th. Ring--which is now owned by Amazon--has been one of Silicon Beach's most successful startups, with humble origins as "Doorbot", including an appearance by founder Jamie Siminoff on Shark Tank. Amazon paid around $1 billion for Ring earlier this year.
