RealD Revenues Rise To $57.8M

Los Angeles-based RealD, the developer of 3D movie projection technology, released its results Thursday, saying its Q3 2011 revenues rose to $57.8M, up 91 percent from Q3 of of 2010, when it reported revenues of $30.2M. The firm had a net GAAP loss of $16.6M. The firm said it has now deployed approximately 11,300 RealD enabled screens, up from the 4,300 screens it had in December of 2009. RealD said the revenues were driven by an increase in the 3D film slate, as well as consumer demand for the immersive 3D experience. RealD's revenues are somewhat based on the number of 3D screen showings; the firm takes a cut of 3D ticket sales at theaters.
