Qualcomm Taps IBM, Samsung, Chartered For Foundry Services
San Diego-based Qualcomm, a developer of CDMA phone technology, said today that it is tapping three manufacturing products for 90nm chip production of its chips. Qualcomm said that semiconductor fabrication houses IBM, Samsung, and Chartered have started production of its system-on-a-chip products. The firm's common platform provides multiple suppliers and interlock with its foundry partners for productino of its designs. The "Common Platform" approach allows for semiconductors to be designed to a number of different foundries, without requiring the painstaking and expensive steps of porting designs to different semiconductor processes and design methodologies.
