Qualcomm Disputes Japanese Order
San Diego-based Qualcomm said Thursday that the firm disputes the claims in an order it received from the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) this week. The JFTC had claimed that Qualcomm's Japanese licensees were force to cross license patents to Qualcomm on a royalty-free basis, and that they were also forced to not exert patents against each other. Qualcomm disputed the claim, saying that the provisions in the agreements provide "enormous benefits" to its customers and licensees, and that the order was "neither justified by the facts nor supported by the law." Qualcomm said it will submit a written response to the draft order within the next two weeks.
