Proximal Data Acquired By Samsung
San Diego-based Proximal Data, a developer of storage caching software aimed at use with virtualized systems, has been acquired by Samsung Electronics, Samsung said today. Financial terms of the buy were not announced. Proximal Data was venture backed by Divergent Ventures and Avalon Ventures, and had only announced around $5M in funding. Proximal Dat was led by Rory Bolt, a storage veteran who previously founded Avamar Technologies, which was acquired by EMC. Samsung said the buy will help add server storage software expertise to its solid state (SSD) storage products. Proximal's caching software is used to organize data, storing the most frequently used data on memory--a technique which dramatically accelerates data storage access.
