Paragon Debuts New Virtual Backup, DR Service
Irvine-based storage and backup software provider Paragon Software has rolled out a brand new, centralized backup and restore product, called Paragon Protect & Restore (PPR). Paragon said the new software provides agentless backup of virtual servers and workstations, and integrates with VMware's vSphere virtualization software. The new offering takes advantage of the APIs available for agentless backup, which allows virtual machines to be backed up without requiring CPU- and network-resource consuming agents on all of those virtual machines. Paragon is one of a number of backup software providers who have been adapting their formerly agent-based backup products to live in the new world of enterprise, virtual machine environments; the new software can store backups on local storage or secondary archive, and Paragon said it will be adding the option to store backups to Amazon and other cloud storage providers in the near future. Pricing on the new product was not announced.
