Nimbus Data Trumpets Patent
Aliso Viejo-based Nimbus Data, a developer of flash-based storage products for the cloud infrastructure market, said it has received a "new" patent for its deduplication technology. The company said it was granted patent 8,751,763, entitled "Low-overhead Deduplication within Block-based Data Storage". According to the USPTO, the patent was actually granted two years ago on June 10, 2014, and names Karmpudi V. Ramarao as inventor of the patent. The patent had been applied for in 2013. It's unclear why Nimbus Data decided to announced the patent as newly granted. The technology covered in the patent appears to have been acquired by Nimbus Data from another company, XOFlash, which was founded by Ramarao.
