MPAA Targets Video Downloaders
The Motion Picture Association of America has fired another volley in its campaign against online file swappers, with a new lawsuit against six BitTorrent websites that it says are responsible for swapping millions of dollars of motion picture and television programming. The lawsuits are the first to target the swapping of television programming. The lawsuits follow a series of lawsuits against BitTorrent movie swapping web sites. The industry group said that it hopes to work with movie web sites to produce legal entertainment products like those available through Los Angeles-based Napster. The MPAA said that it believes the six sites it is suing deliver copyrighted material to over 100,000 people daily.
