Movielink Acquired By Blockbuster
Santa Monica-based video download service Movielink has been acquired by Blockbuster, the video rental chain, in a deal that was announced late Wednesday. Blockbuster did not disclose terms of the deal. Movielink, a joint venture of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Studios, offers Internet-based movie rentals and download-to-own titles. Movielink was started in 2002. Blockbuster said that it plans to continue to operate the Movielink service, and will eventually make the video on demand service available through its website.
