Masimo Sues Apple Over Apple Watch

Irvine-based patient monitoring equipment developer Masimo has sued Apple, claiming that Apple stole its trade secrets and infringed on its patents--not to mention, hired away key employees--in order to add health monitoring features to its Apple Watch. In a patent filing in the US District Court for the Central District of California, Masimo and one if its spinoffs, Ceracor Laboratories, said Apple infringed on ten patents held by Masimo in order to implement health monitoring features in the Apple Watch, and also hired away a key employee--Michael O'Reilly--who is now heads up the health efforts for the Apple Watch. O'Reilly was hired away in 2014, from his post as Chief Medical Officer at Masimo. Masimo and Ceracor Laboratories are seeking both an injunction as well as unspecified damages in the suit.
