Linspire Makes Software Download Service Free
San Diego-based Linspire, provider of a end-user targeted Linux distribution, has dropped its fee for its "Click 'N Run" software download service. The firm, which previously charged anywhere from $20 to $50 for users to use the service, said that it will offer it as a free service. The service is used to download desktop Linux applications to Linspire's distribution and to purchase premium products. The company said that it is making the basic service available to users because of the strong revenue from its premium products and services. The company's Click 'N Run program has received mixed reviews online; it is unpopular with Linux power users, according to postings by users in Linux forums, but popular with Linux neophytes who liked its ability to easily install Linux software.
