LA City Council Clears Uber, Lyft For LAX Pickup
The Los Angeles City Council has voted to let ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft go ahead and pick up passengers at Los Angeles International (LAX), despite an earlier delay. The vote, which was 9-6, is the first time that the ridesharing services have gained access to the airport, which had barred all but licensed taxi and airport transportation companies from entering. The move is sure to ignite yet more scuffling between local taxi companies and operators and fans of Uber, Lyft, and other smartphone driven, "on-demand" ridesharing services. Taxi and transportation companies complain that Uber and Lyft do not have to meet the same requirements as they do, and often undercut their business, where consumers seem to back Uber and Lyft's far more convenient, faster, cheaper--and often friendlier--service.
