Imation To Close Camarillo Plant, Lay Off 140
Imation, a manufacturer of magnetic tape and storage media, said this morning that it will close its Camarillo plant by the end of the year. According to Imation, the move is part of a effort to "optimize" its magnetic tape manufacturing efforts. Imation said that it will consolidate all of its manufacturing at a Oklahoma plant, and will result in the loss of 140 positions. Imation had previously manufactured magnetic tape media at the Camarillo plant for the backup storage industry. Imation's Camarillo facility has been in operation since 1963, and was once one of the largest employers in Ventura County. The final cuts follow similar moves last year which cut the firm's total employed at the plant from 230 down to 110. The facility was originally created as a part of 3M, before the spinoff of Imation.
