IAC May File Lawsuit Against AI Firms
IAC, the Internet media giant founded by Barry Diller, may be preparing a lawsuit seeking billions of dollars from artificial intelligence companies for a coalition of online publishers, for their use of those publishers' content to train their AI, according to a report. IAC has had a long history in the world of Los Angeles online publishing and media, in addition to its involvement in Hollywood. The suit comes as industry executives have pondered the impact of generative AI technology on publishing. The impacts could be quite broad: just last week, it was revealed that Google has been pitching an generative AI tool ostensibly aimed at news publishers, where the AI would "assist" journalists in writing news articles.
