Gumiyo Sees Surge From Hurricane Irene

Woodland Hills-based Gumiyo, the mobile publishing software firm led by Shuki Lehavi, reported this week that it saw a surge in mobile traffic due to Hurricane Irene. Gumiyo said its newspaper customers on the East Coast saw a bump of up to 300 percent in their mobile traffic due to the hurricane, as residents in the affected areas sought out information. The firm said it saw the biggest traffic on August 28th. Gumiyo develops software which helps publishers create mobile apps. The firm attributed the surge in traffic to the loss of power and Internet connectivity on the East Coast, which was a boon for mobile device access. Gumiyo is angel backed, and its board includes Yuri Pickover (Xylan, Access360), and Bob Hawk (U.S. West/Crosspoint VC), and Chuck Abronson (Amplica/CAP Wireless/Accordance Ventures).
