Gaikai Partners On Gaming Tablet
Los Angeles-based cloud gaming service provider Gaikai is in a deal to take its technology to a "gaming tablet" the firm said today, and has signed a partnership with firm Wikipad. According to the firms, they will offer an attachable, console-quality gamepad control, which integrates Gaikai's cliento into the tablet. Gaikai develops game streaming technology which allows videogame users to run complex video games directly from the cloud, without requiring bulky installations or downloads. Financial details of the link between the companies were not disclosed. Wikipad is manufacturing a touch sensitive tablet specifically aimed at videogamers, featuring HD graphics, game console style controls, game controller, and more; the product has yet to be shipped, but was announced at CES 2012. Gaikai is backed by Benchmark Capital, NEA, Rustic Canyon Partners, Limelight Networks and Intel Capital.
