Fandango Inks Streaming VOD Deal With IMAX
Los Angeles-based Fandango, the movie ticketing and movie information provider, has inked a new deal to stream films from IMAX, as part of its video-on-demand service, FandangoNOW, the company said on Monday. According to FandangoNOW, it will become the exclusive, transactional video-on-demand (VOD) service which will feature IMAX Enhanced films releasing to home video through 2019. Financial details of the deal were not announced. The IMAX Enhanced film program provider 4K HDR content and DTS audio films. The two said that FandangoNOW plans to offer those movies when IMAX Enhanced launches later this year. IMAX Enhanced is being co-created by DTS--which has its offices in Calabasas, but is now owned by Xperi--to offers up immersive image and sound as part of films. The two announced that effort in September. FandangoNOW said it will offer up both big studio titles and IMAX documentaries when IMAX Enhanced launches.
